How do I get started with the homebuilding process?

Siouxland

Whether you’re looking to build in Iowa, South Dakota, or Nebraska, Siouxland has plenty of great lots to choose from.

Step 1: Decide the area you want to live in

There are several excellent neighborhoods and developments in the Siouxland area. Some of our favorites are Spanish Bay in Dakota Dunes, Whispering Creek in Sioux City, North Greenview Estates and Willow Run in Le Mars, Wynstone (just west of North Sioux City), and Sergeant Bluff. There are also some great lots available in the rural outskirts of Sioux City, particularly near Hinton for those looking for something near the Northside.

Step 2:  Determine what size and floorplan you want

Try to find a good starting point for the size, style, and layout of the floorplan you’d like. For some, it is helpful to reference home design magazines and websites for assistance. If you plan on building with Brown Wegher, you can check out some of our model floorplans.

Step 3: Figure out what styles you like

Spend some time on interior design websites such as Houzz to get an idea of what design styles you like. Save or print pictures of your favorite designs. If you bring them to us, our on-staff interior designer can help create a design style that fits your taste.

Step 4: Choose a builder

For guidance on this step, check out our blog post Things to Consider When Choosing a Homebuilder.

Step 5: With your building partner, complete your plan and budget for financing your home

Work to establish a budget with your homebuilder. With the budget and plan in place, you can get your financing lined up.

Step 6: Start building the home of your dreams!

With the right contractor, imagining and creating your home through new construction can be a fun and rewarding process!
