Mesmerizing Examples Of Natural Textures In The Home

Natural Textures
From cedar planks to stone facades, the exteriors of homes have long had a monopoly on natural textures. Bringing them inside can be tricky, however; too much and the home becomes too weighted and earthy, too little and the elements can seem out of touch and out of place. This delicate balance is why our design team works so hard at getting the colors, texture, and fixtures just right.
Wood, stone, and fibers are a great way to add warmth, texture, and color to nearly any room. Want to see how how it looks when it is done well? Keep reading.

6 Online Resources That Will Make You Better At Choosing A Kitchen

Online Kitchen Planning Rescources

Cabinets. Countertops. Flooring. Appliances. Backsplashes. Light fixtures. Outlet placement. Storage. If you think choosing your new kitchen is going to be easy, think again.

And yet, as daunting as kitchen design can be, it can also be fun. The trick is knowing where to look for inspiration, how to gather ideas, and how to draw from your own life and experiences to make sure the “heart of your home” reflects as much of your personal style as it does your functional needs.

We’ve gathered six of our favorite kitchen design sites to make the process a little easier. All you’ll need to do now is get started!

1. Houzz — Houzz is part super-charged Pinterest, and part one-stop shop for home. With a bevy of filtering options to help you find exactly what you’re looking for. Sort by cabinet styles or color, check out different types of backsplash tile, or investigate whether or not concrete counters just might work for you. Houzz even has a shop portal so that you can get in, find what you like, and get it on its way. Don’t forget to follow Brown Wegher on Houzz too!

2. Pinterest — When you want to find something specific or are looking for something curated, Brown Wegher has a board dedicated to kitchen cabinet organization options. Only the best of the best makes it onto the board, so rest assured it’s worth a look.

3. Big Box Stores — Home Depot and Lowes have plenty of resources and they don’t mind when you take a stroll through the store to feel the difference between a cup pulls and a bar pull. You can also check out the online catalogs, planning tools and lookbooks for places like Restoration Hardware and Crate & Barrel. Their collections are carefully laid out with helpful descriptions of each fixture and feature.

4. Decorpad — Decorpad is a variation on the Houzz theme. Here you’ll be able to find different photos filtered by different parameters, like paint color. It also includes helpful features like the Look 4 Less comparison tool and the integrated forum.

5. Online Guides & Cheat Sheets – This measurement cheat sheet is a great quick-reference guide for measuring around the kitchen. You know what they say: “Measure twice, cut once.”

6. Finally this guide to subway tile patterns helpfully lays out the number of different ways that one can use subway tiles to make a statement. Because they’re so versatile and low maintenance, subway tiles are a popular choice for backsplashes and bathrooms. Before you look into any expensive tiles, check out this guide.

As you dive into these kitchen design sites, keep function, shape, and size at the forefront; the other design elements won’t mean as much if you can’t operate effectively in the space. And remember, these tools will get you started, but don’t forget to make room for your individuality. Check out these resources, find what excites you, and run with it. 5 Common Misconceptions About Picking Out Your Wall Colors

Picking Wall Color

The majority of Siouxland residents have made peace with “Builder Beige” walls in every room of their homes simply because the thought of picking a different color was just too difficult. Too dark, too shiny, too light, too dull–with so many color and finish options, painting becomes a mess even before you pick up a roller.  [Read more…]
